4pm energy drop, it’s bad!

Most of us have an energy drop mid to late afternoon and reach for a sugary snack. Stop, you need something else and here is what it is.

Tue Mkt 4For the last two days I’ve not been having my juice. Instead I’ve been enjoying toast with butter and jam.
Now to most of you that is a normal breakfast but our bodies crave protein for breakfast not processed carbohydrates and sugar. I’ll forgive the butter as it provides all the natural fats I need.
In just two days I’ve noticed a huge difference.
My stomach is upset and I need to take Acidophilus pro-biotics to calm it down. I’m much more hungry at 11am and reaching for a biscuit.
By 4pm I have to have a snooze and not needed one of those in months. It is a huge dramatic change and  I was beginning to doubt that it is all just down to having toast and jam for breakfast.
Then I remembered my research. My juice supports my adrenal glands by giving them all the vitamins and minerals as well as protein that my adrenals need to work effectively and to work in conjunction with my thyroid. If either of them go out of balance then both stop working at full capacity.
Your adrenals enable your body to deal with stress. Stress from injury, disease, relationships, work and even environmental stress. Your adrenals prepare your body for attack, retreat or surrender and they then tell every cell in your body how to respond. Now if your adrenals have been stressed out for too long then they get exhausted and so do you.
My body has responded in just two days to bad food and I now get that ‘exhausted 4pm feeling’ and have to sleep.
What is even worse is the effect that my exhausted adrenals are having on my thyroid function and conversion to the life giving Thyroid hormones that I need.

Hypothyroidism (low thyroid) can be primary or secondary. Primary hypothyroidism can easily be cured with administration of thyroid replacement therapy.
Secondary hypothyroidism is low thyroid function caused by malfunction of another organ system. One of the most frequently overlooked causes is adrenal fatigue.

A lot of thyroid patients have both of these problems as when the thyroid stops working the adrenals shut down and it is never ending till both are helped. Most Drs only look at thyroid, give tablets and tell you that you will get better. You may for a short while and then feel worse again.

SugarFor many changing the diet to cut out sugar and salt helps. Craving either of these shows the adrenals are struggling and that you actually need more minerals.

Strange then that this evening a good friend phones for a chat and just happens to mention that for the last two days she has been juicing for breakfast and has so much more energy. Her 4pm snooze has disappeared and whilst she is learning to like the taste then a change to the basic fresh juice recipie by a bit more celery has given her a juice she likes.

Check out the adrenal page information, the symptoms are so similar to Hypothyroidism and could explain why some of your symptoms are not going away.
Maybe you just need to protect your adrenal gland by taking time out to rest and de-stress. Think about your food choices and instead of reaching for sugar and chocolate reach for protein to support your adrenals instead. A hard boiled egg is a really easy and good snack to have in the fridge.

Take action for two days and make a difference to your health and your change to live a longer healthier life.
