It’s a great time of the year for the kids as they dress up and go out trick and treating, yet at the end of the night, what is life-like for you, the parent?
It’s the night and often lasts a week, as they collect so much food of sweets, chocolates, cakes, crisps and general party food that kids love. Then they all gather back at someones house for fizzy drinks, pizza, sausage rolls and more.
So not wanting to spoil the party fun, let’s take additives that are added into food. We need them, so we are told, to help prevent our food spoiling. Maybe to make it look and taste better. We add things to make your food more nutritional!
Yet on the flip side additives can cause allergic reactions, some make your health worse. Is your child hyperactive and eating processed sugary drinks, sweets and foods could you slowly cut these out and see if it makes a difference?
Sulphur in processed meats can cause asthma and other breathing issues as can colourings found in children’s sweets, confectionary and squashes.
Nitrates are often added to meat and even into what we call healthy food such as dried fruits, this may then convert into potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines.
Gum is used in sauces, soups, bread, biscuits as well as jam, chocolate and milk shakes. It makes the product appear more substantial and also makes it appear more creamy and smooth. That all sounds OK till the side affects are mentioned. It can cause flatulence and stomach pain and in some people these will be quite severe.
So Halloween and kids can be stressful for the parents as they go on sugar, additive and gum over-load.
Start them the next day on a diet fit for Olympians. Watch the difference in them and you as you eat healthy food that tastes good without any additives.
